Handley, Owusu Baah wins TCGC Presidents Putter





Enterprising golfers D. Handley and Margaret Owusu Baah (Mrs.) came out tops in the 2013 President’s Putter golf competition played at the Tema Country Golf Course (TCGC) on Saturday.

The event which attracted 120 amateur and professional golfers to the greens of the TCGC also marked the beginning of competitions for this year at the Tema club.

Handley, dominated the one day 18 – Hole event in the men category A and closed with a net score of 67 to win the competition ahead of E. K. Ocansey who finished with 68 with E. K. Amezado back in third position with a net score of 69.

In the ladies category A, Mrs. Owusu Baah who is the administrator of the Tema Women’s Hospital, dominated play and closed with a net score of 71 to win the competition ahead of a very strong field.

Her score was four strokes better than that of Ama Morgan and Vetsch Bempong who finished second and third respectively in that division.

Mareten Claude netted 64 to win the men category B event with Patrina Galley scoring 68 to emerge tops in the ladies category.

The professional’s event was won by the impressive E. K. Osei who beat Vincent Torgah, John Mawuli and Francis Torgah to the top prize on count back after all four had finished with the gross score of 71.

The competition was sponsored by captain of the TCGC Kofi Yin with cash prizes, trophies and souvenirs and attracted golfers from the Achimota, Bok Nam Kim and Sakumonu golf clubs as well as the from the hosts.

The next event on the calendar of the TCGC is the AGM event which is scheduled to come off on Sunday, February 24 with the Captain’s Prize event to be played on Saturday, March 16, 2013.
