The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu, has questioned National Petroleum Authority Chief Executive Alex Mould’s motive in suggesting that the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) should be privatized.

On Monday, Mr Mould said on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme that TOR has not turned a profit since 1996 and called on government to consider privatizing it to make its management more efficient.

He explained TOR is more of a liability than an asset to the state and suggested that privatizing it would relieve the government of certain economic risks.

However, speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam programme on Tuesday, Madam Owusu said she suspects a ploy by government and its communicators to run TOR down and subsequently sell it at a low price.

The MP accused the governing National Democratic Congress of being visionless and clueless regarding the problems facing the country, adding that their brand of leadership is shaking citizens’ faith in the economy.
