French Ambassador Frédéric Clavier is travelling to Cape Coast and Takoradi from Monday, 18th to Wednesday, 20th of February to pay a courtesy call to some official Ghanaians.

The purpose of his visit is to maintain and enhance cooperation and partnership between the two countries, through an insight on what has be done, what is going to be done and what could be done.

In Cape Coast, French Ambassador Frédéric Clavier will meet Pr Kuupole, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) (Monday 18th, 09 am).

The talks will concern the future of cooperation with the French Department of the University, the Institute of Education, the Doctoral School of ICT technologies, the Doctoral School of Mathematics: how to develop inter-university partnership agreements, co-supervision, and french-Ghanaian Master’s degree.

French Ambassador Frédéric Clavier will also meet Hon. Anthony Egyir Aikins, Chief Executive from Cape Coast Metropolitan District (Monday 18th, 17pm). The talks will concern a possible cultural agreement between the Cape Coast city and a French city.

In Takoradi, French Ambassador Frédéric Clavier will meet Cap. Cudjoe Anthony, Metropolitan Chief Executive (Tuesday 19th, 2.30pm).

They will talk about urban development, one of the sectors of concentration of AFD (Alliance Française de Développement) in Ghana. AFD finances the GUMPP project (Ghana Urban Management Pilot Programme) that relates to urban investments in four cities including Sekondi-Takoradi. Metropolitan Assemblies have selected the investments to be financed and will supervise the works.

French Ambassador Frédéric Clavier will visit the Takoradi Thermal Plant (T2) at Aboadze with its General Manager, Mr Osafo Adjei. TICO Company, which managed the Takoradi 2 Power Plant, decided to add a 3rd turbine of 110 MW.

Works have already started and will be completed at the beginning of 2015. The 3rd turbine is financed with $330 M of loans from various financial institutions including AFD Group (17% of the total financing, $55,5 M). The impact of this project is important: additional generation capacity, reduction by 17% of the cost of the electricity produced and reduction of carbon emissions by 275.000 tons per year

French Ambassador will end his official trip with the visit of the Ghana Rubber Estates Limited (GREL) plantation. Agriculture is one of the three sectors of concentration of AFD (Alliance Française de Développement) in Ghana. AFD has been supporting outgrowers schemes with GREL since 1995, via 5 phases including 3 phases with sovereign loans to the Ghanaian State and 2 phases with direct loans to ADB (Agricultural Development Bank). The impact of these financing is a high increase of the income of the farmers

During his trip, French Ambassador will visit as well Alliance Française from Cape Coast and Takoradi. France would like to develop theses centres which promote French language and cultural action.
