Dejected Black Stars after losing 3-1 on penalties to Burkina Faso at the Nations Cup

Sports Minister-designate Elvis Afriyie Ankrah wants the Black Stars to forget about their abject Nations Cup display and focus on next month’s World Cup qualifier.

The Black Stars next assignment will be against Sudan in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier at home on March 24.

Ghanaian fans have been criticizing the team for finishing fourth at the tournament in South Africa-they failed to end a 31-year wait for an African title.

The Ghana Football Association is yet to receive a technical report on why the team imploded at the semi-final stage with defeat to Burkina Faso and a third-place 3-1 defeat to Mali.

But Afriyie Ankrah wants the technical team and playing to aim at bouncing back next month.

“We have a crucial match against Sudan in March, so we must learn lessons from this competition and begin to prepare ourselves psychologically for that match,” he said.

“The World Cup is a bigger stage so let’s focus on that because if we are able to qualify and participate well, I’m sure that will wipe away the tears and the heartache of Ghanaians.

“I’m throwing a challenge to all of you as you go back to your respective teams, try to organize yourselves and put this behind you and begin to focus and prepare for the next crucial matches that we must win at all cost.”

Ghana are second in Group D; three points behind leaders Zambia and need a win to revive their campaign.
