Fani-Kayode re-arraigned over money laundering

LAGOS — FORMER Minister for Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, was, Monday, re-arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, on a fresh 47-count charge of money laundering.

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is prosecuting the case.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge after same was read to him.

Trial judge is Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia.

Counsel to the accused, after the charge was read to Fani-Kayode, prayed the court to allow the accused continue with the bail conditions granted by Justice Ramat Mohammed, the former judge hearing the matter.

His counsel also prayed the previous judges handling the matter allowed the accused liberty to travel abroad at will for medical check,  saying the second trial judge, Justice Binta Murtala Nyako, granted such leave to the accused.

The prosecuting counsel, did not oppose the bail, but asked for a trial date.

Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia in a short ruling, allowed the accused to continue with the earlier bail granted by Justice Mohammed and adjourned further hearing in the case till March 11, 12 and 13.

Fani-Kayode’s re-arraignment, followed the transfer of the former trial.
