When Pepsi rallied support for the Super Eagles

PEPSI, official beverage sponsors of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), over the weeekend galvanised Nigerians to support the Super Eagles with a campaign entitled: ‘Our Nation, Our Pride.’

Aside from communications across all media, Pepsi organised an AFCON Five-A-Side football competition in several Nigerian universities to shore up support for the Super Eagles and create fun and excitement for the students, who went home with fantastic prizes including cash rewards.

For coming to cheer their teams drawn from different faculties, many students went home with different Pepsi gift items such as football and sports bottle while the teams won medals, trophies and cash awards.

At Ijora, Lagos head office of Seven-Up Bottling Company Plc., it was a festival of sort as the Chairman of the company, Faysal El-Khalil and Managing Director, Sunil Sawhney led all staff to sign different goodwill messages on a giant Pepsi greeting card for the Stephen Keshi tutored boys. Some of the messages read: “We love you all,” Go for goals Eagles,” “Bring the cup home.”

An elated Sawhney said after signing on the jersey, “we are proud of the Super Eagles performance as they exemplified the ‘can do spirit’ of the average Nigerian.”

With two former Pepsi Football Academy students, Mikel Obi and Elderson Echejile and Pepsi football ambassador, Victor Moses, mesmerising their opponents with great football skills along with their colleagues, it was no surprise that Nigeria performed excellently at the AFCON in South Africa.
