Richmond Boakye-Yiadom is relishing the chance to make his Africa Cup of Nations debut on the last day of Ghana’s campaign.

Ghana meets Mali in the third place play-off match on Saturday in Port Elizabeth.

The striker has been sidelined by injury since the Black Stars kicked off their group campaign in South Africa but has remained pleased with the progress of his teammates.

“I thank God for healing me and getting me back to my feet. I think whatever the boys have done and the coach, I have confidence in what they have done to bring us this far,” Boakye-Yiadom said on Friday after training.

But after recovery from the injury which kept him out of five matches up to this stage of the Nations Cup, Boakye-Yiadom says he will grasp whatever role coach Kwesi Appiah hands him as Ghana bid to win the third-place match.

“The decision will be taken by the coach either I have to play or I have to stay back and support the team to win,” the 20 year-old striker said.

“All I need is, I want us to take the third-place. Injury or without injury, the only thing is we have to get third-place. My job is to work and train and whatever decision the coach will take, I know at the end of it all, it will bring victory.”
