A combined team of the Nigerian Police and the Joint Military Task Force(JTF) code named Operation Pulo Shield yesterday launched a rescue operation that led to the release of the kidnapped mother of the leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mrs Esther Akpe.
The 69 year old woman was last Tuesday abducted from her home in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state. Family sources confirmed that Mrs.Esther Akpe was in good health and affirmed that the kidnappers treated her well.
The spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, Mr.Fidelis Odunna, informed LEADERSHIP that the kidnappers abandoned their victim at the location after a heavy exchange of gun fire with the combined team of anti-cult and Anti-Kidnapping force.
Speaking with newsmen yesterday, the Special Adviser to the Bayelsa State Governor on Security Matters, Col. Bernard Kenebai (rtd) said the combined security operatives including Joint Military Task Force, the Police and men of the State Security Service mounted pressure on the suspected kidnappers which led to the release of the woman who has been held captive for close to one week.
