Court rejects 2 directors’ injunction to stop Newswatch daily papers

By Innocent Anaba

LAGOS —A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, yesterday, declined an application for interlocutory injunction by two former directors of Newswatch Communications Limited, Nuhu Wada Aruda and Professor Jibril Aminu, seeking to stop further publication of Daily, Saturday and Sunday  Newswatch Newspapers.

Aruda and Aminu are representing minority shareholders in the media outfit.
Trial judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba adjourned till February 11, 2013 for hearing in the substantive suit on merit.

Reacting to the judgment, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim said: “No one says the minority does not have a right, but not to the extent that a less than one per cent right, as in Aruwa and Aminu, will overrule over 50 per cent right of the majority. It will be strange in our jurisprudence, for those individuals are not parties to the contract, as stated in the House of the Lords case of Pains vs Cave.”
