Senate President David Mark saturday tasked Super Eagles to defeat Elephants of Cote D’ivoire and lead Nigeria to quater final in today’s match at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in South Africa. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh, Mark called for a team spirit amongst the Eagles, saying Nigerians have fasted and prayed for their victory.

“All that is left for the players is to do their own part of the game and put smile on the faces of Nigerians,” Mark said as he urged the Eagles and their coaches to leave no stone unturned in bringing the trophy to Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, former Abia state governor Dr.Orji Uzor Kalu told the Super Eagles as they prepare to battle Cote D’Ivoire in today’s game that names do not play football.

In his message signed by Emeka Obasi, Kalu said,”The Elephants are beatable. Big names like Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure did not stop Zambia from lifting the trophy in 2012.Diego Maradona and Argentina were floored by Cameroun,  even as defending champions at the Italia’90 World Cup. Eagles also showed their stuff in France when they damaged pre-tournament favourites Spain beyond recognition in 1998.That was the last we heard of Andoni Zubizaretta and the beginning of the end for Raul. Mark my words,Drogba would bite his nails at the end of the clash.”

Also the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has charged the Super Eagles to keep their eyes on the trophy. The party, which congratulated the Super Eagles for getting to the quarter-finals stage after beating Ethiopia on Tuesday, hinted that it has been praying for the team to get to the final stage and lift the coveted trophy.

Metuh in a statement yesterday said the ruling party is proud of the players and charged them not to leave anything to chance but to do their best and make the nation proud by winning the cup.
