THE Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission will vet all eight presidential candidates and their running mates even though they were cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
EACC vice chair Irene Keino said yesterday the commission will evaluate the aspirants on integrity issues even after the March 4 election.
“Although IEBC has already cleared most of the presidential aspirants, we will still pursue legal means should we find persons already serving in public office have issues on integrity,” she said.
Keino said the EACC does not have enough time to vet all the presidential aspirants and running mates before the general election.
Speaking in Eldoret at the launch of the EACC’s regional office, Keino said her commission is working with the IEBC, Department of Immigration, Commission of Higher Education and Kenya Revenue Authority to ensure those serving in public institutions have “high morals”.
The Eldoret office will serve the counties of Turkana, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Busia, Bungoma, Uasin Gishu, Baringo Nandi and Elgeyo-Marakwet.
Eldoret’s is the sixth regional branch of EACC and the commission plans to have a branch in all 47 counties. Keino said aspirants for various posts may lose their nomination certificates — and posts if already elected — should they not pass the integrity test.
She appealed to the public to report aspirants of questionable integrity so that they can be barred from leadership. Present at the event were Uasin Gishu county commisioner Abdi Hassan, EACC commissioner Jane Onsongo and Eldoret Bishop Cornelius Korir.
