The President’s lawyers are accusing the 2012 Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party of groping for evidence to back his election fraud petition which is currently before the Supreme Court.

Nana Akufo Addo’s lawyers on Thursday filed a petition praying the court to amend his earlier claim that rigging occurred in close to 5000 polling stations in the elections.

The flagbearer and his two co-petitioners now say they have evidence to prove that the rigging was extensive in more than 11,600 polling stations.

But Spokesperson for the President’s Legal team, Nana Ato Dadzie in an interview with XYZ News said the petitioners are merely fishing for non-existent evidence to prove their case.

“We expect them to call 11,000 witnesses to verify the allegation they are making in their petition.

“They shouldn’t be surprised if we also call 11,000 witnesses to counter the 11,000 polling stations they are claiming. We would have thought this case would move faster so that we put it behind us”.

“On our sides we increasingly believe that there is what in law we say they are fishing for evidence coming up with this matter”.

However, NPP’s Deputy Communications Director Yaw Buaben Asamoah, who is also a Lawyer, counter-accuses the ruling NDC’s lead Counsel Tsatsu Tsikata of rather scheming to delay the entire hearing.

Mr. Tsikata, at Thursday’s hearing, applied to be heard on the electoral Commission’s request for further details on the polling stations where the alleged rigging took place.

But the Yaw Buaben Asamoah believes that the application is meant to slow the wheels of justice.
