Adamawa LG Election Tribunal Fixes Feb 7 For CPC Case

Adamawa Local Government Election Tribunal has fixed February 7 for proper hearing in the case filed by the CPC challenging the November 24, 2012 council polls in the state.

Chairman of the tribunal, Mr Babakano Abubakar, announced the date on Tuesday after striking out a preliminary objection to the suit by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) challenging the competence of CPC to challenge the conduct of the election.

Abubakar said that ADSIEC’s provision states that the argument that only candidates who contested an election had the right to challenge it and not the party was contrary to the constitution and Electoral Act, and therefore could not stand.

The CPC is challenging the election of all the 21 LG chairmen and their deputies who won the election on the platform of the PDP.
