Lobbying Turns Dirty In NDC

It has increasingly become obvious that things are not going too well within the ranks and file of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the ongoing lobbying for positions within the President Mahama-led administration.

An atmosphere of mistrust, backbiting and uneasiness appears to be prevailing in the party, as activists employ various means to catch the attention of the President, in their bid to secure positions in government.

A reliable source also indicates that some potential lobbyists had resorted to the use of voodoo power, commonly known as ‘Juju’, in their desperate attempt to catch the attention of the Presidency.

Information gathered by The Chronicle indicates that some potential power-seekers had gone to the extent of using secret tape recorders just to frame their colleagues, and use them as evidence against them at the Castle, the seat of government.

According to the information, the people behind these tactics would deliberately set up their opponents, and allegedly get them to commit themselves by either insulting some leading members, or criticising them while recording it on tape, which is subsequently used as evidence against them.

The situation, according to some concerned members, had developed great mistrust and an atmosphere of apprehension amongst leading members of the party in the region.

The concern has also been shared by the party’s Constituency Women’s Organiser for Asokwa, Akua Serwaa, and a member of the Regional Communication team, Kobby Onasis Rosely.

Both party members have publicly condemned the situation in separate interviews, describing it as unfortunate and a recipe for chaos in the party.

Kobby Onasis told the Host of Fox 97.9FM breakfast show in Kumasi that he had witnessed occasions where individuals had gone to the Castle just to destroy others to win favour in the eyes of decision makers within the government.

He said it was worrying that at a time the party had won power and needed to consolidate its victory, particularly in the Ashanti Region, by working through unity of purpose, some people had resorted to backbiting, mudslinging and dirty machinations that were likely to tear the party apart.

Onasis argued that though it was the right of every individual to lobby for positions in the current

administration, doing so by employing “A Pull Him Down’ tactics was completely unaccepted.

On her part, Akua Serwaa expressed regret on the radio station on Friday, cautioning that she would openly mention names and shame individuals involved in the plot, if it does not cease.
