Northern Regional Minister Moses Magbengba has warned his outfit would not countenance any attempts by anyone to celebrate the Damba festival at the Bolin Lana’s palace in Yendi.
There was sporadic shooting this morning when police prevented some Abudu youth from celebrating the festival at the palace.
The Abudus have vowed to mark Damba festival there despite protests from the Andani gate and several warnings from the security agencies.
But Mr Magbengba says the Abudus are not adhering to the laid down arrangements for the celebration of the festival.
He said it was agreed that the Damba festival should be conducted only in Gbewa palace, and has been so for the past years, and was yet to come to terms with why the Abudus would want to celebrate it at the Bolin Lana’s palace this year.
Meanwhile, Yendi Police Divisional Commander Chief Supt. Cephas Bediako has told Joy News “Yendi for now is calm this afternoon”.
He said the police had information about the unlawful gathering and moved in to disperse them. He however denied reports that some people sustained gunshot wounds during this morning’s operation.
He said the security have intensified patrol in the area to ensure peace and order there.
