Assistant coach Maxwell Konadu disagrees with the assertion captain Asamoah Gyan is not an inspirational leader.

Issues have been raised over the leadership qualities of the Al Ain striker both on and off the field of play.

Unlike previous Black Stars captains, the 27-year-old chooses not to yell or make gestures during matches to show he is the leader of the team.

Some have however misconstrued the lack of these antics as a deficiency in Gyan’s captaincy.

But Konadu insists the technical team are content with former Sunderland hitman’s stewardship.

“As a captain, you don’t need to show the whole world you are a leader,” he said.

“And so if you don’t see him yelling at players or not showing gestures towards his players that does not mean he is not inspirational.

“He is doing his best and we have been praising him for doing that.”
