Sissala Union congratulates President John Dramani Mahama

The Sissala Union on Monday congratulated President John Dramani Mahama for winning the 2012 Presidential Election and his subsequent inauguration as the President of the Republic of Ghana.

A statement signed by Dr. Roger Kanton, President of the Union and copied to the Ghana News Agency Accra, prayed to God to bless President Mahama with his wisdom and patience and guide him to rule Ghana in the manner that would promote peace, unity, prosperity and happiness among Ghanaians.

The statement noted that being the second person from northern Ghana to become President of Ghana after the late Dr. Hilla Limann, the union appealed to him to use the appointments that he would be making to help unite the people, calm the high political tension and polarisation in Ghana.

It said he could do this by appointing the right persons to the right offices without fear or favour and also ensuring that attention is given to marginalised and under developed areas that had not been provided with adequate infrastructure.

“This is the turn of communities that, out of no fault of theirs, have not be provided with the basic development projects to enhance their living conditions”, the statement said.

The statement suggested to President Mahama to consider rotating regional ministers that he would be appointing so that no citizen of a region would be allowed to preside over a region that he or she hails from.

Rotation of regional minister, the Union said, was practiced some years back and should be revised to help improve national integration, cohesion and development.

The statement noted that the practice where persons were selected from the regions that they hail from and appointed as regional ministers, in some cases, had not allowed equitable distribution of development projects.

It said some of the ministers turned to favour their ethnic groups and areas with development projects than the other areas, causing over concentration of development projects in areas that they are from and denying the rest of the areas development.

The underdevelopment of Ghana, the Union, said could be traced to some of those negative practices by some ministers and appealed to President Mahama to take a second look at it.

The statement appealed to incoming regional ministers to focus on providing those areas with more development projects to help bring such areas to the limelight.

The Union appealed to President Mahama to rule Ghana with humility, fairness and justice, reminding him of the saying that “The horse does not run just for running sake but it does run for the sake of its good name”.
