A ‘DAF 95XF’ tanker with registration number XR 326 AGL (LAGOS) loaded with PMS, Sunday morning, crashed on a long bridge along the Lagos- Ibadan expressway.
The tanker, according to the driver Mr Kayode Olusegun, suddenly had its steering locked to the driver’s side while in motion on the bridge. This, he said made him lose control, the loaded truck veered away collided with the edge barrier which prevented it from fallen off the bridge.

Following the accident, traffic was diverted from Lagos-Ibadan bound carriageway to Ibadan-Lagos bound carriageway to avoid secondary crashes and ease the process of trans-loading the product.
Confirming the incident in statement, the Sector Commander, FRSC Lagos State Sector Command, Nseobong Akpabio, said FRSC operatives, Nigeria Police, Fire Service personnel with their trucks and Ogun State Traffic Management Agency officials were on ground to handle the situation.
“FRSC Lagos State Sector Commander got in touch with Mr Oyedeji Ifeoluwa, Safety and Security Manager of Total Nigeria Plc who also arrived the scene. At about 1025hours, another truck from Total Nigeria Plc arrived the scene to trans-load the PMS from the crashed truck. A tow-truck has been secured to remove the vehicle and restore normal traffic immediately trans-loading is completed.”

The Sector Commander however, commended the driver, Mr Kayode Olusegun for not being on suicidal speed hence his ability to manage the vehicle during the crash.
He noted that the upcoming FRSC Lagos State Command stakeholder’s meeting with the Truck and Tanker owners would review frequent crashes of trucks and tankers along the Lagos-Ibadan corridor in addition to enhancement of the Corps’ patrol operation along the corridor.
