US: KNUST South East Alumni holds Annual Fundraising Dinner Dance

The South-East branch of the KNUST Alumni (KNUST SE) group of the United States of America held its first ever Annual Fundraising Dinner Dance at the Monarch Ballroom in Duluth, Georgia on last month.

The main objective of the fundraising was to mobilize funds to help the under-resourced alumni secretariat which is situated on campus in Kumasi, and also mobilize funds for the National KNUST Endowment fund.

The occasion was chaired by Ms. Evelyn Davis and who delivered the keynote address, there were two other speakers namely Attorney Boakye Dankwah of Boakye Dankwah LLC in Atlanta and Dr. E. Afriyie-Gyawu, Assistant Professor at the Jiann Pin-Hsu College of Public Health, Georgia Southern University, Statesboro.

The program commenced about 9pm local time with a welcome speech by the President of the Association, Mr. Clement Quartey-Papafio, who welcomed all participants to the first ever Fundraising Dinner Dance for KNUST SE Alumni Association.

The chairperson for the occasion Ms. Evelyn Davis in her keynote address emphasized on the need to share whatever we have acquired with our society, by participating in various aspects of the Ghanaian society to benefit the under-served. She noted that enough attention should be given to the sustainability of the future education of our children.

The main speaker of the night, attorney Mr. Boakye Dankwah in his address took the opportunity to educate participants on how to go through the US immigration system with less complications, he shed more light on some of the new immigration reforms being considered by the Obama administration.

This was followed by a speech on the Ghanaian environment by Dr. E. Afriyie-Gyawu. He mentioned some of the pertinent public health issues epidemic in Ghana and called on all professionals to help in their own small way to savage the situation.

He mentioned some of his personal efforts of contribution.. Dr. Evans has an annual exchange program between Georgia Southern University and Cape Coast University where graduate and doctoral students from the US come to Ghana to undertake internships and practicum.

The occasion was witnessed with exciting alumni personalities from different parts of the South Eastern US.

Even though the fundraising was not able to reach its full target, it was an encouraging start; everybody who came to the event commended the organizers for a good job done.

The Executive body of the KNUST South-East group used the opportunity to extend invitation to every alumnus within the vicinity of the South East region to join in the family of technocrats, adding that they have nothing to lose but a lot to gain; since they are one big family.
