The Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, yesterday, set up a six-man committee to investigate the alleged recruitment scandal that led to the removal of former Comptroller General of Immigration, Mrs Rose Chinyere Uzoma.
President Goodluck Jonathan had on Tuesday ordered the former NIS Boss to proceed on a pre-retirement accumulated leave owing to the said controversial recruitment.
Comrade Moro, who spoke in Abuja, yesterday, while inaugurating the committee said the setting up of the committee was meant to investigate how the former C-G ran the service, with the intention to amend all abnormalities.
The minister said that he had received some petitions and appeals from some officers of the service bothering on fraud, injustice and tribal sentiments in the conduct of promotions.
He added that other serious allegations ranging from certificate forgery, and non-compliance with the principle of seniority in determining officers qualified for promotion were also received.
According to him, “After the last promotion of officers in the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, I received some petitions and appeals from some officers of the service bothering on fraud, injustice, and tribal sentiment in the conduct of the promotion exercise.
The duties of the Committee are to verify the allegations of secret recruitment, sales of appointments, nepotism and tribal sentiments in the promotion of officers within the service.
