Sex-For-Job Scandal…Top Official Involved

The Kwahu East District National Youth and Employment Programme (NYEP) Coordinator,” Mr Addo Adjei, is in trouble for allegedly using his office for ‘sex- for-job’ activities.

Mr Addo Adjei, who is also the constituency organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was “alleged to have raped a married woman at his residence after the victim had visited him on his request.

Explaining the circumstances under which she was allegedly raped, the victim (name withheld), who lives at Ankoma in the same district with Mr Addo, said she received a phone call somewhere last year from Mr Addo, asking her to come to his office to be offered a job in the NYEP programme.

According to her, she responded to the call the following week and joined a group of people to attend a three-day workshop, where they were given training in their various fields of employment.

She said Mr Addo, after the workshop, invited her to his home to help prepare food for him; a house the coordinator occupied alone, and she obliged. Mr Addo, whom the lady said had never proposed to her, forcibly had sex with her in his room.

“I have known Teacher Addo, as Mr Addo is popularly called, for many years in Ankoma before I went to Accra to acquire training in hair dressing, but he never proposed to me. He told me to help prepare some food for him since his wife and children were not staying with him and it was when I went that he forced me and had sex with me,” she disclosed. “The victim said she was haunted by the coordinator’s action so she decided to inform her husband.

The husband sent the case to the Chiefs of Kwahu Nteso for hearing, where the chiefs considered the case as rape and adultery and subsequently fined Mr Addo an amount of GHc 1,000 as compensation for the lady.

When contacted, Mr Addo denied the rape charge, insisting that he had proposed to the lady and that the lady had stayed with him in his room for three days before they had sex. Mr Addo has since paid the fine, but his victim claims the issue is tearing her home apart because her husband no longer trust her.

In a further development, some NDC members are calling for the head of the constituency organiser because they say his action has brought the party into disrepute. They have therefore appealed to the party’s national executives to investigate the matter and apply the necessary sanctions.
