Dutse airport to handle cargo flights

EXECUTIVE Chairman of Dutse Capital Development Authority (DCDA), Alhaji Bashir Aminu Suleiman, has disclosed that its airport, which is under construction, is to handle cargo flights.

It has been listed as one of the six airports in the six geopolitical zones to undertake such operation, he told The Guardian after defending the budget for DCDA at the Jigawa State House of Assembly.

According to him, the airport will be fully operational before the end of the year and that Jigawa pilgrims for the next hajj operations will be airlifted from the airport.

“In our zone the Federal Government has chosen Dutse airport, which is under construction as one of the sixth airports from the six geopolitical zone to embark on a cargo operation. Kano airport has been there for donkey years, there is Bauchi airport, but the Dutse airport has been selected for that purpose.”

Suleiman added that with a proposed total cost of N7.5 billion for capital projects, by the next two years when most of them have been completed, Dutse would compete with any state capital in the world.
