Fire Remains

One hundred and sixty-six fire outbreaks have been recorded within the first two weeks of this year.

The Ashanti Region recorded the highest with 52 fire outbreaks while the Volta, Upper East and Upper West Region recorded the least with one each.

According to statistics from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) made available to Graphic Online, the Central Region has so far recorded 10, Western seven; Brong Ahafo 28; Eastern 10; Northern two and Greater Accra 51.

It categorised the fire outbreaks under domestic, vehicular, electrical, commercial, and industrial.

Under those categories, domestic fires made up the highest of 18 in the Greater Accra Region, 20 in Ashanti, six in Central, four in Western and nine in Brong Ahafo.

The rest are Volta, one, Northern two, Upper East one and Western seven.

In the category of vehicular fires, Greater Accra recorded three; Ashanti, Central, Western, Brong Ahafo and Eastern two, one, none, five and one respectively.

For electrical fires, Greater Accra has since recorded seven, Ashanti and Central has had one each, while the rest recorded nil.

In the bush fire category, the Ashanti Region recorded 12, Greater Accra six, Brong Ahafo nine while Central and Eastern had one each.

For commercial fires, the Ashanti Region led with 12 while Greater Accra had seven, Brong Ahafo four and the Central, Western and Upper East had one each.

According to the statistics, Greater Accra has had two institutional fires while the Ashanti and Western Regions have recorded one each.

One death was recorded in the Greater Accra Region as well as three injuries and one injury in Brong Ahafo.

The latest to be recorded are the fires that gutted the BBC Industrial Company inTema and ECOMOG, a slum near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, both in the Greater Accra Region and another in Kumasi, in the AAshanti region at the weekend.
