WORRIED that the current deplorable state of affairs in the country could lead to an avoidable catastrophe, Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, Sunday, sounded a note of warning to the country’s leaders to urgently rise to the challenge of addressing the situation and save the nation from imminent collapse.
The cleric who gave thumbs down for the political class in the immediate past year, said the nation’s leaders have failed to provide the masses with the basic needs of life. The trend, he said, was responsible for the alarming rate of kidnapping, high level of corruption and unparalleled state of insecurity in every part of the country for the better past of last year.
Okogie frowned at what he called dearth of purposeful leadership both at the federal and state levels of government and carpeted the nation’s politicians for allowing themselves to be enmeshed in the intrigues and jostle for power over the 2015 election instead of devoting time to provide quality leadership for which they were elected.
“Nigeria is in dire state of disrepute. It appears there is no government presence at the centre end state level and yet they claim that all is well. For how long will they keep the citizens in fool paradise?”, he queried.
