Government has said that District Municipal and Metropolitan Chief Executives are not affected by the general reshuffle of ministers.
There are speculations about possible changes but a statement signed by caretaker Local Government Minister, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said under article 246 (2) of the Constitution, the tenure of DCEs who were appointed in May 2009 will end in May this year.
The statement called on them to stay in office whiles a general review of the performance of affected DCE’s is undertaken.
Caretaker Minister Samuel Ofosu Ampofo explained further that the tenure of the DCEs is not conterminous with that of the president.
He said the statement was to address the agitation at the various districts and municipalities where people have started presenting their applications for possible appointment.
He stressed the DCEs tenure of office is four years and the current appointees have until May 2013 to vacate office.
