Kwesi Appiah does not want to get carried away by Ghana’s 3-0 win against Egypt
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says he was interested in his side’s tactical disposition than the heavy 3-0 win against Egypt.
Appiah’s starting line up which included a lot of debutants did not struggle to beat the seven-time African champions in Abu Dhabi.
Goals from Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Richmond Boakye-Yiadom and Asamoah Gyan coupled with good goalkeeping ensured they kept a clean sheet.
But Appiah says he was only interested in the work rate of his players.
“This is our first trial game and you know we are preparing a team that is representing Ghana in South Africa,” Appiah said.
“The main fact that the players are not always with us makes it a bit difficult, but I don’t really care about the scores.
“Whether they score us ten-nil or we score ten, I don’t care.
“The most thing is tactically how we defended, and then whenever we went on the counter attacks, how we finished our attacks.
“I was also looking at the set pieces, how we implemented our corner kicks and freekicks and I think I will give the team seventy percent, which is good.”
Ghana’s next friendly match is against Tunisia on 14 January in Abu Dhabi before leaving for South Africa.
The Black Stars tournament opener is against DR Congo on 20 January in Port Elizabeth.
