We didn’t manipulate posting, promotion – Moro

Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Abah Moro has denied manipulating the promotion and posting of officers in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

Moro, while addressing journalists at a Press Conference in Abuja said the promotions and postings were done based on laid down rules.

He admitted that he directed the upward movement of staff in the NIS because some of them have been in a position for more than seven years but insisted that, that was his only involvement in the exercise.

“There was no point in the process that any direct or deliberate attempts were made to alot any slot of postings to the kinsmen of the Honourable Minister or for that matter, the Comptroller General of Immigration Service to the best of my knowledge.”

He stressed that since he came on board, promotions have been based on professional competence and the nature of the assignment involved.

The media have been awashed with reports of manipulation of promotions, postings and recruitment in the NIS by authorities and top government functionaries including the Presidency, in recent weeks.

However, Moro pointed out that none of the President of the country, his wife or any member of the family were involved in the posting, promotion and or recruitment of staff into the Service.

Recruitment

The Minister and the Comptroller General of NIS have also been accused of carrying out a secrete recruitment exercise in the Service.

While speaking on the issue, Moro maintained that he was not aware of any irregularities as he was away outside the country when the waiver for recruitment was given.

“I directed the Permanent Secretary to work with the Comptroller General to carry out the exercise based on laid down rules.”

He insisted that he ordered for immediate cancellation of the exercise when the allegation of malpractices came up in the media.

Moro promised to carry out internal investigation to get to the root of the issue, threatening also that those culpable of leaking untrue information to the Press will be dealt with.
