Sapele—The Police in Sapele, Delta State, Thursday terday, cautioned motorcycle riders, commonly called Okada, who were taking advantage of non-banning of Okada in the area to perpetrate criminal activities, particularly kidnapping, that henceforth, the force will double its crime detecting techniques, with a view to fishing out all criminals pretending to be Okada riders in the area.
The Divisional Police Office of Sapele Police Divisional Headquarters, Mr. Kenneth Akubue, who gave the warning in Sapele, on the rising cases of kidnappings by motorcycle riders in the area, said henceforth, the force will begin thorough check and verify genuine Okada riders in the area with a view to fishing out the criminals among them.
Akubue lamented cases where school children, whose parents had requested certain commercial motor cyclists to take them to school or different destinations, were diverted and kidnapped by unscrupulous motor bike riders, for the purpose of ransom or for rituals.
He said: “The trend must stop, the police will try its best to ensure that school children are safe in this area. Persons who kidnap children using motor cycles must stop and we will ensure that no stone is left unturned to restore sanity to Sapele and its environs.”
