The crisis rocking the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened as the party on Monday suspended its secretary, Dr Tope Aluko, for 30 days for alleged anti-party activities and divulging of classified information to those perceived as “enemies of the party.”
The party said it relied on Section 59 subsec-tions 1 and 2 of its constitution in carrying out the action. It also passed a vote of no confidence on the suspended secretary.
Aluko’s suspension, which took immediate effect was taken at the party’s State Working Committee yesterday.
According to a statement by the deputy chairman and publicity secretary of the party, Femi Bamisile and Pastor Kola Oluwawole respectively, the party said the suspension was to enable the party
carry out full investigations into all the allegations leveled against Aluko. The party accu-sed Aluko of indulging in acts capable of denting the image of the party.
But Aluko denied the allegations saying he remained a bona fide member of the party and that nobody can suspend him. He said the rumour of his suspension still remains news to him.
In another statement signed by all the 14-member SWC , said the party is constitu-tionally empowered to suspend any of its erring member alleged to have perpetrated acts of indiscipline
The party stated that in line with chapter 3 , paragraph 10 subsections 2 and 3, any of the party leaders alleged to have engaged in acts capable of putting the party into disrepute , engage in acts capable of causing crisis and or found engaging in anti-party activities can be punished by party top hierarchy .
Speaking further on the development, Pastor Oluwawole said the party had an image to protect adding that nothing would stop it from instilling discipline in the party.
He however, assured that the suspended exco member would be given a fair hearing and opportunity to defend himself.
