There is a growing controversy about the upcoming Ghana DJs Awards, a few weeks after the event was announced.<\/p>\n

The awards festival has sparked speculations of rivalry and arguments between some known DJs in Accra.<\/p>\n

One of Africa\u2019s finest and Ghana\u2019s celebrated DJ Black, in an interview, has stated that though he did not see the need for such rivalry, \u201cpeople have their favourites and know their worth. Your hard work will single you out\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sarkodie\u2019s Disk Jockey, DJ Mensa had this to say: \u201cIt certainly would be in the good interest of the Ghanaian entertainment industry because such a program will go a long way to put Ghanaian DJs on their toes, which means consumers of music will have better quality on the radio, at night clubs and at parties\u201d.<\/p>\n

YFM and ETV\u2019s DJ Flexy said the work of a DJ went beyond sitting behind the console and changing tracks but rather involved hours of hard core research which informed the worth of any good DJ. He added that he thought it was a good initiative to award DJs, explaining that \u201cit will motivate them to work harder to entertain the people of Ghana\u201d.<\/p>\n

Tension is already brewing on Facebook and Twitter social networks with debates by sections of the public on who deserves what, although the organizers, Merqury Republic, haven\u2019t officially launched the event.<\/p>\n

The annual Ghana DJ Awards- the first of its kind to be organized in the country- will be held this year with a sole aim of promoting and awarding the best achieving Ghanaian radio, nightclub and recognized mobile Disk Jockeys.<\/p>\n
