A women group, Proactive Gender Initiatives, yesterday called on the federal government to fight corruption first before removing fuel subsidy.<\/p>\n
The group, who stated this at the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Abuja Council at Utako, decried the level of corruption in the country.<\/p>\n
Leader of the group, Barrister Esther Uzoma, called for dialogue in solving the looming crisis facing the country as a result of the subsidy removal.<\/p>\n
“Nigeria women under the platform of Proactive Gender Initiatives are clamouring for dialogue as the country is not cheap because people lost their lives to achieve independence for the country,” she said.<\/p>\n
She said during crisis situations, women suffer most through rape, humiliations and gave example of the crisis that took place at Congo, Egypt and Somalia, among others.<\/p>\n
Also speaking, Barrister Agnes N. Zeph of A.N. Zeph and Associates, called for a total war against corruption in order to build a system of trust and prudent management of the country’s resources.<\/p>\n
Earlier in his speech, Mr Lawrence Alobi, former FCT police commissioner, called on Nigerians not to frustrate President Goodluck Jonathan’s good intentions to transform the country, adding that he is a man with the capacity and interest of the country at heart.<\/p>\n
“To attract government’s attraction, people must first obey the law as Mr President will not sit down and fold his hands when there is breakdown of law and order.<\/p>\n
