The flagbearer of the United Front Party (UFP), Akwasi Addai aka Odike, has laid the cause of the current electoral standoff between the NPP and the Electoral Commission (EC) at the door step of the party\u2019s polling agents who allowed themselves to be compromised.<\/p>\n

According to Odike, many polling station agents \u201cgo there to do business\u201d, negotiating among themselves to manipulate and swap results on the blind side of their leaders.<\/p>\n

The NPP has rejected the results of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections alleging massive fraud by the NDC in connivance with Electoral Commission officials.<\/p>\n

Based on figures the party claims to have, the largest opposition party has vowed to seek legal redress.<\/p>\n

The Progressive People\u2019s Party has also written to the Chairman of the EC to complain about irregularities in the electoral process, but is however calling for reforms.<\/p>\n

The other parties, who have also complained about the alleged fraud, have however chosen not to pursue the matter.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Adom FM\u2019s Dwaso Nsem morning show on Thursday December 13, 2012 UFP presidential candidate Odike said he was not surprised that there were electoral disputes because of the activities of polling agents.<\/p>\n

Mr Addai insisted EC boss Kwadwo Afari Gyan had done nothing wrong; rather it was the NPP\u2019s polling agents who had let the party down.<\/p>\n

\u2018They (polling agents) can and are often compromised. They all go there to do business, they bargain and swap results depending on who pays the highest money\u2019 he alleged, adding \u2018that\u2019s why I got so few votes. A small party like me, how much can I pay?<\/p>\n

\u2018There are places that I know people voted for me because they took pictures of their votes and sent them to me, but I got zero there. NPP is accusing NDC of rigging; is it not also possible that NPP compromised some NDC polling agents?\u2019<\/p>\n

To prevent any future electoral disputes, Odike suggested that the nation invests in a fully electronic voting process, \u2018whatever it takes\u2019 to remove the human element which could manipulate the out outcome of polls.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, \u2018NPP leaders should advise their youth to leave the streets and concentrate on pursuing their case in court\u2019 he advised.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
