Connie Britton<\/strong> always knew she wanted to have a family<\/a> \u2014 and she wasn\u2019t about to let her single status stand in her way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI lost both of my parents within three years of each other and I kind of thought, \u2018What am I waiting for?\u2019\u201d the Nashville<\/em><\/a> star said during The View<\/em><\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe man will come and if I want to have my own kids I can do that, but I [knew] this was something I [wanted] to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

And after shining light on Africa\u2019s orphan crisis, it didn\u2019t take long for Britton, 45, to decide where she would find her first child. \u201cI was going to do a documentary about Ethiopian orphans and spent a lot of time in orphanages there,\u201d she shares.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was something I knew I always wanted to do \u2014 adopt from there.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2011 the actress welcomed home<\/a> Yoby<\/strong> \u2013 a \u201cwonderful and life-changing experience,\u201d Britton says \u2014 and, from the start, baby boy has been busy motivating his mama in ways she never imagined.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is really true, I sing to him all the time. Poor thing practically never hears me just say a straight word. I sing everything like we\u2019re in a musical,\u201d she jokes. \u201cI guess he likes it. He wasn\u2019t able to defend himself because he couldn\u2019t speak until just recently.\u201d<\/p>\n

So when she was offered the role<\/a> as country superstar Rayna James on the hit show Nashville<\/em>, Britton didn\u2019t think twice about belting out her voice. \u201cWhen this came up, I thought to myself, \u2018You know, I sound pretty good singing with Yoby. I\u2019m sure I can pull it off.\u2019 Not smart!\u201d she says with a laugh.<\/p>\n
