{"id":237805,"date":"2012-12-09T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-12-09T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2012\/12\/ki-moon-urges-action-on-climate-finance-deal\/"},"modified":"2012-12-09T23:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-12-09T23:00:00","slug":"ki-moon-urges-action-on-climate-finance-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2012\/12\/09\/ki-moon-urges-action-on-climate-finance-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"Ki-Moon urges action on climate finance deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div class=\"story-featured-image c6\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/assets.punchng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Ban-Ki-Moon-360x240.jpg\" class=\"attachment-bigstoryimage\" alt=\"Ban Ki-Moon\" title=\"Ban Ki-Moon\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"featured-image-caption\">Ban Ki-Moon<br \/><small><em>| credits:<\/em><\/small><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"c7\">Underlining the importance of an agreement on climate financing, the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, urged government delegations to the 18th Conference of Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change that just ended in Doha, Qatar to deliver on the long-term climate finance deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c7\">He also urged them to ensure that the institutions set up in Cancun and Durban to support mitigation and adaptation by developing countries, including the Green Climate Fund and the Climate Technology Centre and Network, were fully equipped and made effective.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c7\">Speaking at the opening ceremony of COP18 on Tuesday, he asked all government parties to demonstrate, with no ambiguity, that negotiations on a global and legally binding instrument remained on track and show how they intended to act on the gap between mitigation pledges and what was required to achieve the two-degree target.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c7\">The target is meant to keep increase in global temperature below two degrees Celsius to combat climate change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c7\">\u201cDeveloped countries must give their clear indications that scaled-up climate financing will flow after 2012, and that it will be commensurate to the goal of mobilising $100bn a year by 2020 from public and private funding,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c7\">Taking a cue from calls by the civil societies clamouring for a fair climate deal, Ki-Moon said the Kyoto Protocol remained the closest to a global, binding climate agreement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c7\">\u201cIt is a foundation to build on.
