The New Patriotic Party is calling on the Electoral Commission of Ghana to desist from announcing the results and declaring victors in the general elections.<\/p>\n
According to party chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, the demand is founded on a number of anomalies the party has detected in some of the results announced so far.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe respectfully demand with the EC to not release any official results till these extremely serious concerns are investigated thoroughly and its findings announced. We also call for an immediate meeting with the chairman of the Electoral Commission. These results cannot be forced down the throats of the people of Ghana as this would be very subversive of their constitutional rights to determine who leads them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jake reiterated that the evidence in the hands of the NPP, is extensive and is all based on the \u2018Blue Sheets\u2019 and also other documents that have to do with the election. Among others, Jake said there were many instances where ridiculous disparities were recorded between total ballots cast for the presidential contest and parliamentary contest, such as, he alleged, happened in the Yendi and Korle Klottey constituency where 10,000 more ballots were cast in the presidential race than in the parliamentary.<\/p>\n \u201cEven in skirt and blouse this is a very ridiculous figure.\u201d<\/p>\n Describing the alleged stealing of votes as a criminal and a rape of the democratic mandate of the people of Ghana, he said they were unfortunately detected only after collated results are declared at the constituency.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have noticed a pattern of fraud where substantial number of votes are either added to the NDC candidate or subtracted from the NPP candidate. What is especially troubling is that the media have been announcing figures from the constituency collation centres that have obviously been tampered with when compared with the tallying sheets, the blue sheet and this is giving a highly misleading picture to the people of Ghana. For example Peace FM and Joy FM have both announced 10,000 more votes for John Mahama, the NDC presidential candidate that what was actually declared for him at the Ledzokuku collation centre, thus attempting to give 63,210 votes instead of the 53,210 that he got…\u201d<\/p>\n Jake insisted the alleged infractions, which he called systematic and cut across the country, cast a serious doubt on the credibility of the results and that the EC must conduct an audit of the results.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The New Patriotic Party is calling on the Electoral Commission of Ghana to desist from announcing the results and declaring victors in the general elections.
