Ibadan \u2013 Alhaji Lateef Akinsola, aka Tokyo, the factional leader of the Oyo State Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) arrested on Wednesday in Ibadan had been released on bail.<\/p>\n

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Oyo State, Mr. Adebayo Lanode, confirmed the bail in a telephone interview with reporters on Friday in Ibadan.<\/p>\n

Lanode said the factional leader was released on Thursday night in accordance with the law that stipulates that no offender should be detained beyond 24 hours.<\/p>\n

He also added that Akinsola was considered for bail because he did not directly commit the crime for which he was arrested.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was released on Thursday in obeying the Nigerian law that says we cannot keep a suspect beyond 24 hours.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgain, he got the consideration for bail, on the grounds that he was not directly linked with the crime, although he was the leader of the alleged factional group,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The police spokesperson said that Akinsola had been ordered to report weekly at the police station until investigations were concluded.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf further investigations prove that he is guilty, he would be charged accordingly,\u201d Lanode said. (NAN)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
