Many brides wear an updo for their big day because it allows the dress to really take center stage. But Courtney Mazza did so for an unexpected (and sentimental) reason when she tied the knot outdoors<\/a> with Mario Lopez<\/a> in Punta Mita, Mexico on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very important that [Courtney] had her hair up because Mario loves her hair pulled back,\u201d Mazza\u2019s hair stylist, Marc Mena, tells PEOPLE. \u201cHe met her with short hair, so he loves her having hair away from her face \u2026 And when I saw Mario right after the wedding, he told me, \u2018I never thought you could make my wife look even more beautiful than she did that day.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Mazza donned a side-parted low chignon<\/a>, inspired by old Mexican actresses, with a custom Ines Di Santo gown, but Mena (who also did the couple\u2019s daughter<\/a> Gia\u2019s flower girl \u2018do) notes that Lopez wasn\u2019t the only one who loved the bride\u2019s look. \u201cHer mother was in awe \u2014 and just by the look of her mother\u2019s eyes Courtney knew it was spectacular,\u201d Mena says of the sweet moment that happened before Mazza took a look in the mirror. \u201cAnd once [Courtney] saw it, she said, \u2018This is exactly how I pictured myself to look on the day of my wedding.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

To get the hairstyle, Mena started by curling each section of Mazza\u2019s dark brown hair with a 1-in. iron, then brushed out the curls and created a deep side part. Mena then pulled her hair into a low chignon, completing the look with a bedazzled hairpiece. \u201cWe added a beautiful crystal comb [that curved around her chignon] in the back, so all you would see through the veil is sparkles.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Lopez\u2019s new bride let her hair down \u2014 literally \u2014 for the reception<\/a>. \u201cAfter dessert she changed dresses \u2014 [the second Ines Di Santo dress] was very sparkly \u2026 It was a whole different feel,\u201d Mena explains. \u201cSo we took her hair down and she had this Veronica Lake wave.\u201d Tell us: What do you think of Mazza\u2019s wedding day hairdo?<\/strong><\/p>\n
