There’s more legal trouble for Lindsay Lohan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The same day that the actress was arrested<\/a> in New York for allegedly punching a woman in a club, charges were filed against her in California in connection with a car accident.<\/p>\n

Nearly six months after Lohan crashed her Porsche into the back of a dump truck<\/a> in Santa Monica on the way to the set of the Elizabeth Taylor biopic Liz & Dick<\/em><\/a>, she was charged with three misdemeanors by Santa Monica prosecutors.<\/p>\n

The charges were obstructing or resisting a police officer, providing false information to a police officer, and reckless driving. <\/p>\n

According to media reports, Lohan told officers that her assistant had been driving. But Santa Monica police said in a statement, “During the subsequent investigation, information was developed that Lohan was the driver of the Porsche when the accident occurred.”<\/p>\n

The legal implications for Lohan are more serious because she was on probation at the time of the June 8 crash.<\/p>\n

When she appeared before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner back in March to end her formal probation relating to two DUI arrests and a necklace theft case, she was warned<\/a> that if she violates any laws before her informal probation expires in May 2014, she could get 245 days in jail.<\/p>\n

Now, the New York arrest could also affect her probation case.<\/p>\n

Santa Monica criminal defense attorney Steve Cron, who is familiar with the players in the case, says he’s assuming Lohan will soon be called back before Judge Sautner for a probation violation hearing.<\/p>\n

Sautner will either determine on the spot that Lohan violated probation and sentence her to perhaps 30 to 60 days in jail, or defer any sentence until Lohan is convicted or acquitted in the New York assault and California driving cases.<\/p>\n

“Obviously, the judge thought she is doing well and she’s not,” Cron says.<\/p>\n

He adds that, since Lohan is on informal probation, a prosecutor or the judge will have to take it upon themselves to call for a probation violation hearing based on these new cases. Lohan’s attorney would then be contacted and asked to bring Lohan to court on a certain date for the hearing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
