Johannesburg – Seven men have been arrested after a shoot-out between cops and robbers in Leondale, Alberton, police said on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale said the robbers had held staff at a cash and carry in Leondale at gunpoint and then robbed the shop of money.<\/p>\n

He said police, along with metro police and security guards, were called to the scene of the armed robbery.<\/p>\n

The police confronted 15 robbers at the scene and a shoot-out ensued.<\/p>\n

During the shoot-out, one of the robbers was injured in his leg and abdomen.<\/p>\n

The other robbers then fled the scene.<\/p>\n

Six of these were caught by the police.<\/p>\n

“Two of the suspects were arrested after hiding in a dog kennel in the area,” said Johannesburg Metro Police spokesman Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.<\/p>\n

The injured robber remained in hospital under police guard.<\/p>\n

Police seized five illegal firearms from those arrested, as well as money.<\/p>\n

The arrested men will appear in court soon on charges of armed robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.<\/p>\n

The search for the other robbers continues.<\/p>\n
