The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has inaugurated a 17-member Regional Security Taskforce Committee to make comprehensive plans for peaceful elections in December.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Patrick Timbilla, Greater Accra Regional Police Commander and Chairman of the Committee, said membership of the committee included representatives from the security agencies and government agencies like the National Commission for Civic and Education in the country.

He told the Ghana News Agency that the Ghana Police Service would deploy personnel to the 26,000 polling stations in Accra, to ensure peace in the December polls.

DCOP Timbilla said standby military personnel would operate as general patrol team to address any issue that might arise prior to the impending elections.

He called on the public to co-operate with the security personnel, and to divulge information to the police in case of any violence or criminal activities.

DCOP Timbilla said if all stakeholders would play their roles effectively, there would be credible and incident-free elections, and appealed to Ghanaians to be abreast with electoral rules since ignorance of the law was not an excuse for misconduct.

He asked religious bodies to use their platforms to advocate peace, and pray for successful elections.

DCOP Timbilla said the country needed to sustain its impressive record of successfully organising elections since the inception of democracy in 1992, which had gain international respect.
