President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday embarked on a day’s tour of the Volta Region with a call on Ghanaians to respect the ethics governing political campaigns so as to enhance peaceful outcomes in this year’s elections.
“Ghanaians are renowned for conducting themselves peacefully in every election and therefore I have no doubt that this year’s election would even be more peaceful than before,” he said.
President Mahama made this call at Dabala when he addressed a durbar of chiefs to set the tone for the tour of the Region.
The President’s embarked on the tour to thank the people of the Region for their contribution towards the final funeral rites of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.
His entourage included Mr Joe Gidisu, Minister for Roads and Highway, Akua Sena Dansua, Minister for Tourism, Dzifa Attivor, Deputy Minister for Transport, Dr Kwabena Adjei, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Mr Edward Doe Adzaho, first Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
He promised to strengthen the institutions and projects that were initiated by late President Mills and called on the people of the Region to support him to accomplish those goals.
“The NDC government has always delivered on its promises and I am very confident that we shall continue to deliver as long as we remain in power,” he added.
He noted that the Volta Region had always been a stronghold of the NDC and that government would not renege on its promises to give them their fair share of development projects.
He announced that the university at Ho had already begun admitting students for the academic year and government would do everything possible to support it to become a vibrant university both locally and internationally.
President Mahama also made whistle stops at Sogakofe, Anloga, and Srogbe where he addressed mini durbars.
