ShareALL roads lead to Ikenne Remo, Ogun State home of Chief Obafemi Awolowo today, as eminent Nigerians , political acolytes and admirers of the sage congregate to celebrate the 25th remembrance of Chief Awolowo.

All the governors of the South-West states and many others are expected at the patronal service slated for Our Saviour’s Church, Ikenne Remo, at 11.00 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Bishop of Remo Anglican Diocese, The Right Reverend (Dr) Olusina Fape, has described the legacy of Chief Awolowo as a heritage that will never perish but continue to resonate forever.

Bishop Fape stated this in a charge during the dedication of donations by the wife of the sage, Chief (Dr) Mrs HID Awolowo, to the Obafemi Awolowo Memorial Anglican Church, Ikenne Remo, on Tuesday.

Items replaced in the 22-year-old church included all its doors, upholstering of the pews, choir robes and rugs done ahead of today’s 25th remembrance service for Chief Awolowo at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Ikenne.

The bishop, in the exhortation, said Chief Awolowo’s name had been written in the sands of time for generations yet unborn to appreciate the legacy and foresight of a man God gave to the country as a rare gift to humanity.

“The Obafemi Awolowo Foundation is there to continue to propagate the contributions of Chief Awolowo to the development of the country. Awo has a good name. I would have been an uneducated farmer but for the free education programme of Awolowo.

“I was in Otukpo, Benue State, for about three or four days and I saw five generals talking about Chief Awolowo. They said no day passed by without Awolowo’s name being mentioned in the country. A good name is truly better than gold and silver,” the cleric said.

Fape thanked Chief (Mrs) Awolowo, who is also the Mother of the Diocese, for maintaining the goodly heritage of the sage, saying that the lines have truly fallen in pleasant places for the Awolowo family.

He acknowledged the contributions of Awolowo’s wife to the diocese, especially raising fund for the construction of HID Awolowo Anglican Church, Sagamu, describing her commitment as one that could not be quantified.

The bible reading for the short service was done by one of the daughters of the sage, Dr (Mrs) Tokunbo Awolowo Dosumu, while the Psalm was taken by one of the grand-daughters, Mrs Yemisi Subair.

A former commissioner in Ogun State, Prince Lekan Tejuoso and his wife, a former member of the state House of Assembly, Honourable Omosanya Solaja, members of the Women’s Guild of the church and others attended the service.
