Mrs Cecilia Senoo, Executive Director of Hope for Future Generation, a non-governmental organisation on Tuesday observed that despite the implementation of the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 5, expectant mothers still lose their lives during delivery.
She said issues related to maternal and child health should therefore not be relegated to the background.
Mrs Senoo made the observation during an Agenda for Media Advocacy and photo exhibition for media personnel at Ajumako in the Central Region.
The forum which was to educate the media on maternal and infant mortality cases and to come out with strategic programmes that would be held address the situation, was on the theme: “Working together for change, MDGs 4, 5, 6 now or never.”
The Director pointed out that even with the numerous interventions in maternal mortality the region recorded 350 out of 100,000 maternal deaths in 2010, and described the situation as unfortunate.
Mrs Elizabeth Uaaye, Deputy Regional Director of Health, advised expectant mothers to visit the hospital for pre and post antenatal care instead of patronising the services of Traditional Birth Attendance.
She also called for public education on good health practices and advised couples to plan their families in order to reduce maternal and infant mortality cases.
Mrs Uaaye urged men to endeavour to accompany their wives for antenatal care and join in the campaign against infant and maternal deaths.
