Arrows targeting cup run

Muhsin Ertugral

Lamontville Golden Arrows will be aiming to go through to the round of 16 when they meet Vodacom League side North West Shining Stars for a Nedbank Cup clash on Saturday evening.

The match will kick-off at 18:00 at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Abafana Bes’thende have already had a decent cup run this season, reaching the semi finals of the Telkom Knockout where they lost 3-1 to eventual winners Orlando Pirates.

However, Muhsin Ertugral’s men have never gone past the first round of the Nedbank Cup since it was introduced in 2008, losing against Jomo Cosmos, Platinum Stars, Moroka Swallows and SuperSport United.

North West Shining Stars’ only participation came during the inaugural tournament in 2008 where they bowed out in the first round following their 1-0 loss to Nathi Lions.

Arrows last collected silverware in 2009, where they thrashed Ajax Cape Town 6-0 to lift the MTN 8, and will see this tournament as another opportunity to end their cup drought.
