St. Bernadette to unveil new sports facilities, holds inter-house sports

HISTORY will be made on Tuesday when St Bernadette Educational Services, owner of Doregos Private Academy and St Bernadette Nursery School, formally commissions its brand new sports complex.

Director of the school, Tokunbo Doregos, said that arrangements have been concluded for a hitch-free unveiling of the facilities. He said: “There will be novelty matches between the students, while Doregos Academy staff will play against St Bernadette staff, beside other various athletics events.”

According to him, the building of a new sports complex is towards the development of sound and mentally fit minds for the overall benefit of the country. He added: “We not only train students on how to excel in academics, we also train them to be great sportsmen and women. That’s why we are tagged college of champions.”

Facilities at the new Sports centre include astro turf and athletics tracks, and it can sit 200 spectators. Also, the school will host its 13th biennial inter-house sports on February 2 at the new sports centre, and expected to compete there are the defending champion, Wosiwola, Abeke, Doregos and Ogunsina houses.

The most successful house in the school’s sports history, Ogunsina, will be seeking its sixth overall title while Wosiwola will attempt to win its fourth title, having won it in 1996, 1997 and 2008. Doregos House, on its part, has claimed the title on three occasions while Abeke’s only success was in 2004.
