Santos confirm interest in Porto full-back Jorge Fucile

Santos vice-president Odilio Rodrigues Filho has declared that his side are weighing up the possibility of signing Porto full-back Jorge Fucile on loan.

The Copa Libertadores champions are understood to be in the market for a new right-sided defender after watching Danilo leave for Porto in a €13 million deal which was agreed in the summer.

Porto have fallen behind on payments for Alex Sandro, which has made Santos delay the release of the paperwork necessary for Danilo’s registration.

Brazilian sources had claimed that Santos would only allow Porto to complete Danilo’s transfer if they could sign Fucile on loan, but Rodrigues Filho stated there is no truth to such claims.

“Fucile’s name is one of those we are considering, he has earned praise, but his arrival has nothing to do with the problem we have with Porto right now,” he is quoted by Lancenet as saying.

“About Danilo, we are talking to Porto to try to solve this problem.”

Fucile is widely expected to leave the Estadio do Dragao after failing to make a single competitive appearance since his side’s 2-1 defeat to APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League in November.
