Five in court for couple’s murder

Five men accused of the murder of a Tongaat couple appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Friday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

They would remain in custody until their next court appearance on January 31, when they were expected to apply for bail, Colonel Jay Naicker said.

The men allegedly shot dead businessman Balaram Reddy, 56, and his wife Maliga, 52, in their Burbreeze, Tongaat home on December 22. Their son Nivashin, 27, was shot in the back and stabbed several times. He survived the attack.

Senzo Sello Nduli, 26, Lucky Ernest Njoko, 23, Sibusiso Mthimkhulu, 28, Blessing Nduli, 33, and Vusi Ngxumeshe, 37, face charges of murder, attempted murder and house robbery. – Sapa
