Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that he would like to bring in two new players during this transfer window.
It has been made public by the Blues that they are eager to sign central defender Gary Cahill, with an offer having already been given and accepted by Bolton Wanderers.
But the arrival of Cahill is not enough as the coach is still seeking one more signing, he told Sky Sports: “Apart from the central defender we might get one more player in, but we’re not sure yet.
“It’s always difficult (in January). First of all, the top talent is normally cup-tied in the Champions League, or in the different domestic competitions.
“It’s difficult for the selling club to make players available. So it’s normal to struggle in the transfer market.
“Normally it’s a market where you overpay a lot and that’s not what we want to do now. I think that’s why we’ve set out not to do a lot in the transfer window,” he stated.
Names that have been linked with Chelsea are Porto’s striker Hulk and Juventus’ misfit winger Milos Krasic, while speculation about a Michael Essien replacement has also been brought up as the Ghanaian continues to struggle with knee trouble.
