THE People’s Process on Housing and Poverty in Zambia (PPHPZ) has formed a network with youth entrepreneurs in Kafue to help them market their products and other artifacts to the Sunday market in Lusaka.

PPHPZ youth networking officer Chabala Chibelo said in an interview yesterday that the collaboration was aimed at helping youth entrepreneurs find ready market for their products.

The Sunday market at the Arcades in Lusaka has provided the youth, especially those involved in the wood craft trade a ready market.

Mr Chibelo said craft makers had in the past complained about the lack of a reliable market for their products which include chess boards, bracelets, among others.

Proximity to the Arcades would help the youths to attract potential buyers such as foreign tourists who throng such shopping centres.

The youths would also endeavour to get contacts from potential customers for their various items.

The organisation would in addition, facilitate transport arrangements to take their products to the Sunday market to display their items.

“The exposure to the Sunday market will help them to mingle freely with other craft makers to exchange ideas and knowledge on how to improve on their products,” Mr Chibelo said.

He said the Sunday market would boost morale among the young entrepreneurs and help them graduate to a commercial level.

Mr Chibelo said production was precipitated by demand, market forces and competitive prices of various products.

“I am seeing the bright future for the youths in the country if the private sector and various stakeholders come on board and help fund various projects for them to undertake,”Mr Chibelo said.
