BENIN – Crisis is brewing at the University of Benin, over who becomes the next Bursar of the University following the expiration of the first five-year tenure of Dr. May Nwoye, as Bursar of the institution.
Already, the position of bursar has been advertised by the university.
Vanguard gathered that as a result of this development, splinter groups have emerged within the institution drumming support for the removal of the incumbent Bursar, Dr. Nwoye, while others have vowed to ensure that she gets a second term in office.
One of the groups rooting for the removal of Dr. Nwoye, “UNIBEN Development Stakeholders Forum,” has petitioned the Minister of Education, Prof. Rufai Ruqayatu over plans by the university management to retain Nwoye as Bursar.
The group wants the minister to commence investigation into alleged fraud perpetuated by the bursary department of the University of Benin.
However, the group loyal to her mainly made of some leaders within the unions in the university.
